Meet Naomi

When Naomi first stepped foot in the King St. emergency shelter, she was full of hope. For too long, she’d be filled with uncertainty. How was she going to survive without shelter? How was she going to find an affordable apartment in Niagara? When she found refuge at the YW, she could feel the page of her story turning towards a fresh start. Finally, she didn’t have to navigate homelessness alone.

In the emergency shelter, she worked with the Women’s Advocate to set goals and a plan for her housing future.

“All the staff here are amazing. I am so grateful for everything,” said Naomi. “Whether it’s simply being there when you need someone to talk to without judgment, or offering advice and support, you can always count on them.”

She worked with an Advocate to explore her options. What did a fresh start look like for Naomi? She was only in the emergency shelter for a short time before she decided what her next steps were. When she turned in her application to the On-Site Transitional Housing program, she told the Woman’s Advocate that she was overjoyed to see what is in store for her next. Both Naomi and the Advocate at the shelter are confident that after 18-months in the On-Site program, she will emerge stronger and more prepared than ever to take on independent living.

We are thrilled to share in Naomi’s success and we hope that you are too! Because of you, services like our emergency shelter serve as a pillar of strength in our community for women and families in need. Our work and Naomi’s success would not be possible without your generosity. Thank you for being an advocate for change in Niagara.
